Siriraj Hospital has introduced a Smart Approach for Vital Emergency Responses (Saver) system to shorten the time it takes to reach patients.
Dr Prasit Watanapa, dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, said the system was developed by True Digital Group of True Corp, the communications conglomerate, for the Siriraj Emergency Medical Services (EMS) centre.
The system has been piloted over the past five months in Bangkok Noi district and served about 400 patients, he said.
The Saver system has also linked with the Emergency Ambulance Hotline 1669, said Asst Prof Dr Sattha Riyapan, head of the EMS centre. After receiving the call, the system will use the GPS location from the mobile-phone number of the caller to find the shortest route to them.
The system can also send patients' location to nearby health volunteers to quickly offer medical aid. It supports a tele-medical consulting service so doctors can provide treatment before the patient arrives at Siriraj hospital.
Dr Sattha said the system helped shorten the time for the emergency team to reach a patient from an average of 40 minutes to just 23 minutes, which can mean the difference between life and death.
Natwut Amornvivat, chairman of the Board of True Digital Group, said the Saver system uses True's network combined with Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies to improve the emergency service.
He said it can be implemented in other hospitals to benefit more patients in the future.
