Ranger, volunteers injured by Narathiwat bomb

NARATHIWAT: A ranger and four volunteers received minor wounds when a roadside bomb exploded in Chanae district on Friday.

The bomb was hidden at the entry to a bridge across the Sai Buri River. It was detonated about 11.20am when a vehicle carrying rangers and volunteers drove past.

The explosion injured five members of the ranger patrol - Sgt Maj Prasert Komutklang, and ranger volunteers Kiattisak Bamphoengphon, Thaweechai Hom-uthai, Asmawee Yodkaew, and Watcharin Sitthinoi.

The vehicle was wrecked but their injuries were minor, police said. They were taken to Chanae Hospital.

Police blamed southern insurgents.
