Insurgent shot dead, two police wounded in clash

SONGKHLA: One suspected insurgent was killed and two policemen were wounded in a clash with security forces in Thepha district of this southern border province on Tuesday afternoon.

Soldiers, police and local officials surrounded a suspected house at Khuan Timun village Moo7 in tambon Pak Bang around 1pm, following information that the place may have sheltered suspected insurgents in the deep South.

Officials and local Islamic leaders took part in negotiations to get those inside the house to come out. 

During the operation, gunshots were fired from the house, prompting the officers to return fire. 

After a brief gunfire, Pol Sgt Namchok Suwan and Pol Sgt Maj Ammarin were wounded and were sent to hospital.

One suspected insurgent was shot dead. He was later identified as Adul Salae, said government forces.
