Italian-Thai model charged in Ponzi case

The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) on Thursday night pressed charges against Italian-Thai model, Sarah Casinghini, for harbouring a fugitive.

Casinghini: Faces questioning

The department, led by Pol Capt Nawinpob Phanawipat, filed evidence against the wife of Daryl Cai Yonghui, a Singaporean man arrested over his alleged involvement in the Forex-3D Ponzi scheme, at Bang Phlat Police Station.

Mr Cai, a close associate of Apirak Kothi, the accused founder of the Ponzi scheme, had been hiding from authorities in a condominium near Krung Thon Bridge, in the precinct of Bang Phlat Police Station, before being arrested on Monday at Phuket Airport while waiting to catch a flight to Singapore, according to Pol Col Parinya Luang-Uthai, the station superintendent.

According to Pol Capt Nawinpob, the DSI only charged Ms Casinghini on one count but will consider further charges if more evidence relating to her possible involvement with the Ponzi scheme is discovered.

Officers at Bang Phlat Police Station reviewed the evidence provided by the DSI on Thursday before charging Ms Casinghini, who will be required to attend further questioning soon, according to Pol Col Parinya. Her husband has been denied bail.
