A Nepali man has been arrested with 5.6 kilogrammes of hashish smuggled from his country seized at Suvarnabhumi airport.

Customs officials and police arrested the passenger at the exit from the international arrivals hall around 5.30pm on Wednesday after an X-ray detected a suspicious item inside his luggage.

The item was a dark brown compressed sheet wrapped in black plastic. Officials took the object for testing and the results showed it was hashish, weighing 5.6 kilogrammes, Panthong Loykullanan, deputy director-general of the Customs Department, said on Thursday.

The man was charged with smuggling illicit category 5 drugs into the country. His name was not disclosed.
