The Royal Thai Police (RTP) have begun a probe into a police general known as "General Jor", who is allegedly involved with an online gambling network run by another policeman known as "Inspector Sua".
National police chief Pol Gen Damrongsak Kittiprapas said yesterday that the investigation is currently being conducted after former massage parlour tycoon Chuvit Kamolvisit recently pointed the finger at the two senior police officers who allegedly used their connections to run a gambling network with more than 10 billion baht in circulation — bigger than the macau888 network which has recently been the subject of much media and police attention.
He said Mr Chuvit provided him with evidence to back his claim. Mr Chuvit said that "General Jor" is a deputy national police chief, but he did not provide the full name. He added the police team is now investigating the matter.
Meanwhile, "Inspector Sua" has been suspended from the police force for absenteeism, pending an investigation, said Pol Gen Damrongsak.
The order against Pol Lt Col Wasawat Mukarasakul, attached to the public work division under the Royal Thai Police’s Office of Logistics, was signed yesterday by his supervisor Pol Maj Gen Thongchai Seriwattana.
Based on the order, Pol Lt Col Wasawat, identified by Mr Chuvit as “Inspector Sua”, has been suspended on the grounds that he was absent from work, causing damage to the state.
The move came shortly after Mr Chuvit urged the national police chief to take action against two senior officers.
The former tycoon claimed the gambling website is operated by "Inspector Sua", an ex-cyber policeman who works in logistics but rarely shows up for work.
Reacting to the order, Mr Chuvit said the suspension is not enough, adding that the Royal Thai Police must look into the policeman’s assets and sources of wealth. He said that "Inspector Sua" is well-known in the online gambling world. The former politician disclosed the policeman’s salary and provided a list of ten companies allegedly linked to Pol Lt Col Wasawat under the Pentor Group umbrella.
