CHON BURI: A Finnish man, 58, was found dead with his throat cut at his house in Sattahip district yesterday morning.

Local police were informed of the death of Markku Tapani Karjalainen at about 8.30am at a house in Moo 9 village of tambon Bang Saray.

In the detached house, the man's body was found in a bed, wearing only underpants. His throat had been cut, and a kitchen knife was lying on the man's chest. His 49-year-old Thai common-law wife was sitting and crying in the room.

She said she had lived with him for about five years but their marriage was never registered.

She said her husband had gone home to Finland and stayed there for about two years. He arrived back in Thailand nine months ago and bought the house.

The man woke up at about 6am yesterday. The woman said she prepared a meal and coffee for him and left to send her young relative to school.

The woman said she returned home to spot blood in the room and find the body.

She said her partner had planned to commit suicide several times because of domestic problems in Finland.

Police sent the body to the Police General Hospital in Bangkok for an autopsy and questioned the woman about the circumstances of the death.

Neighbours told police the couple were often heard having arguments.
