The 34.5-kilometre-long Pink Line mass-transit system is expected to offer free rides in November, according to the government's "Thai Khu Fah" Facebook page.
Citing an update from the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA), it said the elevated monorail system is now conducting trial runs. So far, the trials have proceeded smoothly.
The first phase of the trial running between Min Buri station (PK30) in eastern Bangkok to the Government Complex (PK12) will continue until Oct 22, and the second phase, which covers all 30 stations, will run until Nov 19.
At the end of the trial runs, an assessment will be made by the Independent Certification Engineer (ICE) and the MRTA to determine the readiness and safety of all the systems.
Free rides are expected to be offered from around the middle of November for a month before commercial operations, tentatively scheduled for Dec 18, commence.
The Pink Line links Min Buri and Nonthaburi. The system includes interchange stations for transfers to and from the Purple Line, the BTS's Green Line, and the future Orange Line.
The Pink Line will utilise the same monorail train model as the Yellow Line that is now in operation, with four to seven-passenger carriages capable of carrying up to 28,000 passengers per hour.
Fares are likely to start at 14 baht and are capped at 42 baht, with any fare adjustments to be in line with the consumer price index.
