PHUKET: A small fishing boat capsized in the sea off Koh Ael island, south of Phuket, on Sunday and two crewmen went missing, according to the Region 3 Thailand Maritime Enforcement Command Centre (Thai-MECC).

The Thai-MECC Region 3 was informed of the incident via emergency number 1465 at 1.20pm.

The fishing boat with four crewmen on board capsized about 2.2 nautical miles off Koh Ael island. Two of the crew managed to swim ashore to safety, but the other two went missing.

A patrol boat, Tor 272, was dispatched for a search and rescue mission. Fishing boats operating in the area were informed via a radio network to help look for the missing men and report to the Thai-MECC.

The search was still underway.
