After more than four decades, the legendary songs-for-life band Carabao is calling it quits with a farewell concert scheduled to take place in April next year.

News of the band's intention to split up was revealed on Tuesday by Carabao frontman Yuenyong Opakul, also known as "Ad Carabao".

Yuenyong said it was time to call it a day due to the frail health of several of its members and the farewell concert is being planned for April 1 next year.

However, Yuenyong, who has been declared a national artist, said he will continue composing music with younger musicians.

Carabao, which means water buffalo in Tagalog and represents hard work, was formed in 1980 by Yuenyong, Kirati Promsaka na Sakonnakhon and Sanit Limsala who were studying in Manila, the Philippines.
