Met says hat, coat and brolly weather to come

The temperature in Thailand is expected to drop on Tuesday, indicating the arrival of the cool season.

According to the Meteorological Department, a cool front was moving in from the north over the weekend, bringing with it strong winds.

However, due to the impact of the southeastern wind, rain and thunderstorms are anticipated especially in the lower part of the East, the Northeast, the Central region and Bangkok and surrounding provinces.

The department said rain is also predicted in the South and on the Gulf of Thailand. Fishermen have been warned about strong winds and high waves, said the department.

From Tuesday, a moderate to strong cool front from the north will sweep through the upper part of the country, accompanied by strong winds.

However, the upper part of the country may encounter rain in coming days. After that the temperature will start to drop, marking the arrival of the cool season around Thursday.

The department said the coldest conditions are anticipated on the mountain tops over the coming weekend and warned that the seasonal change can have a negative impact on people's health.

People in the southern region should brace themselves for heavy rainfall and strong waves, the agency warned.

According to the department, this year's cool season will arrive late, about two weeks later than usual. Normally, Thailand enters its colder season by the middle to end of October.
