Police seize B30m worth of drugs

More than 30 million baht worth of illicit drugs were seized from two overseas-bound parcels and two incoming foreign nationals on Tuesday.

Two parcels of heroin -- one weighing 8.3 kilogrammes worth 9 million baht and the other 8.4kg valued at 8.9 million baht -- were intercepted separately by the Airport Interdiction Task Force (AITF) at Suvarnabhumi airport post office.

The drugs were bound for Australia, said Panthong Loykulanant, Customs Department spokesman yesterday. Both parcels were labelled as "photos".

Later in the day, the AITF arrested a Kenyan who arrived from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, who was found to be carrying 1.2kg of cocaine, worth about 3.7 million baht.

Police also nabbed an American man who flew in from Belgium with 3.1kg of ketamine, 1kg of ecstasy as well as 3.1kg of MDMA. The drugs were worth about 9.1 million baht.
