Nonthaburi: A 40-year-old man surrendered to police yesterday after fatally shooting two relatives over a longstanding property inheritance dispute in Bang Yai district, local officials said.
Phist Iampong, a nephew of the victims, allegedly fled the scene after the 9.30am shooting yesterday but later reported to Phanom Phuengsukdaeng, kamnan of tambon Ban Mai, to turn himself in.
He was taken to Bang Mae Nang police station for questioning.
According to an initial investigation, Mr Phist and the victims had been embroiled in a property inheritance dispute, which was finalised in court last month.
The ruling was said to be in favour of Phayao Seeloon, one of the victims.
Wanlop Chuenban, 34, a first responder, said he was alerted to the shooting by locals who heard an argument followed by multiple gunshots. He found two people dead at the scene when he arrived.
The victims were identified as siblings Phayao, 50, and Phayap Iampong.
La-iad Iampong, 62, the suspect's mother, said the shooting was over land that Phayao inherited from her father-in-law. None of the deceased man's five children, including Phayao's husband, inherited any of the land at the centre of the dispute.
According to Ms La-iad, her son was upset and stressed because he feared being evicted from the property due to the court ruling.
