Chaiwat: Violated discipline

The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has asked the Natural Resources and Environment Ministry to take disciplinary action against Chaiwat Limlikit-aksorn, the former head of Kaeng Krachan National Park in Phetchaburi, for misconduct in a construction project inside the park.

In its letter to the ministry, the anti-graft agency said its inquiry had found Mr Chaiwat culpable for misconduct in the construction of a park ranger office building when he was chief of Kaeng Krachan National Park.

The agency said the inquiry found Mr Chaiwat violated Section 157 of the Criminal Code, Sections 4 and 12 of the anti-price collusion law, as well as Section 172 of the anti-corruption law by allowing the construction project to proceed.

He was also found to have committed a gross disciplinary violation, according to the NACC.

In the same letter, the NACC said it has also examined the accusations made against another official, Duang Sangthong, in this case, and found that he had violated the Criminal Code, the anti-price collusion law and the anti-corruption law as well.

Mr Duang was also found to have committed a serious disciplinary violation.

However, the NACC said there were no grounds to proceed with criminal action against two other officials, Suporn Polpan and Nijitnapong Bunditsamit, in this case.

That said, the pair was found to have committed a minor disciplinary breach.

The NACC urged the ministry to take disciplinary action against the four officials without having to conduct an inquiry.

The anti-graft agency said the Natural Resources and Environment Ministry must take disciplinary action against the four officials within 30 days of being informed of the NACC's findings.

As for the criminal proceedings, the NACC said that it had already submitted the cases against Mr Chaiwat and Mr Duang to the Office of the Attorney-General.
