Ranger slain in Pattani

A paramilitary ranger was killed in a drive-by shooting in Khok Pho district of Pattani on Wednesday morning, said Pol Col Rapeepong Sukpaiboon, chief of Khok Pho police station.

The victim was identified as ranger Thanong Sinthu, 40, attached to Ingkayuth Borihan military camp in Pattani’s Nong Chok district. He was driving his motorcycle to his office on Naket-Pattani road at Ban Chamao in tambon Naket of Khok Pho when a gunman on another motorcycle fired at him three times and then fled, according to police.

The ranger took three bullets in his back and died on the spot, said Pol Col Rapeepong.

He blamed separatist militants.
