Thailand and France will co-host an event in Bangkok promoting people-to-people ties through the Olympic Games, which will be held in Paris this year.

The French embassy says the event "Olympic Day 2024 -- Road to Paris 2024" will be held under the theme "Together, For A Better World" between June 15 and 16 at Benchakitti Park.

Olympic universal values will be promoted through free sports demonstrations such as Muay Thai and sailing at Benchakitti Sports Center on June 15, while a race event, "Olympic Day Walk-Run 2024", will be held in Benchakitti Park the following day.

Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul, National Olympic Committee of Thailand (NOCT) deputy chairwoman and International Olympic Committee (OIC) member, spoke on Wednesday at a press conference about the importance of the event.

"I believe that this year, these Olympic celebrations will see many families coming out to play sports together, which is the pathway to living life under the Olympic motto -- 'Faster, Higher and Stronger together'," she said.

The Olympics can help create a better world by educating children through sports, she said.

Sébastien de Vaujany, the French embassy's first secretary and political counsellor, said it is highly symbolic for France and Paris to host the Summer Olympics and Paralympic Games, given it is 100 years since the 1924 games were held in the French capital.

Mr de Vaujany said the French embassy would like to invite Thais to be involved in the Benchakitti Park event either onsite or online as much as possible, as it is a way to bring Thailand and France closer.

"We wish to promote the values of the Games, the practices of sports and cooperation between France and Thailand," he said.

The Summer Olympic Games will be held in France from July 26 to Aug 11, followed by the Paralympic Games from Aug 28 to Sept 8.
