Education authorities have opened an investigation into child sex abuse involving a school director in Khon Kaen, who was arrested this week on charges of buying sex from a 12-year-old student at his school.
The director has been transferred to the local educational services office in Khon Kaen and will also face disciplinary action, said Thee Pawangkhanan, deputy secretary-general of the Office of the Basic Education Commission (Obec).
The Khon Kaen educational services office has set up a committee to carry out the fact-finding inquiry following an order from Education Minister Permpoon Chidchob and Obec secretary-general Thanu Wongjinda, Mr Thee said on Saturday.
“The education minister and the Obec secretary-general have expressed concern about the mental state of the abused student,” Mr Thee added.
“They have instructed the educational services area office to follow up this case, assess her mental state and draw up remedy measures for her.”
Poj Puramphaka, 58, who heads a public school in Chumphae district, was among five people arrested on child sex abuse charges, Pol Maj Gen Sarut Khwaengsopha, commander of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division (ATPD), said on Friday.
Also arrested were retired teacher Wichai Manad, 69, along with three others — two women and a man — accused of procuring young people.
During the operation on Thursday, police also rescued three victims — the 12-year-old student and two female teenagers, both aged 17 — who they said had been lured into the sex trade.
