Confessed child rapist-killer 'worry-free' in prison

Confessed child rapist and killer Nui spent his first night in prison without a trace of worry, Bangkok Remand Prison chief Sorasit Jongjaroen said on Wednesday.

Nui, who has no family name and no identification registration, was arrested on Dec 15 and has confessed to attacking a total of 10 children, four of whom he said he killed.

Mr Sorasit said the 36-year-old was being detained with other inmates to prevent him from hurting or killing himself.

Warders had also been instructed to keep a close eye on him, because other inmates might want to beat him up because of his criminal record and public confessions.

Some inmates had shouted curses at him and demanded to know why he committed such crimes, he said.

"Nui is eating three meals a day and he has shown no signs of being worried or stressed," Mr Sorasit said. "Psychologists will be brought in to check whether he's mentally ill."

The child-murder suspect will not stay in the Bangkok Remand Prison for long. He will be taken to other provinces to re-enact his confessed crimes, he said.

Pol Lt Gen Kamrob Panyakaew, chief of the Office of Forensic Science, said DNA tests on a child-sized skull and hair and flesh remains found in a deserted area near Sukhumvit 105 have confirmed they are those of Nong Cartoon, a six-year-old girl missing since the night of Dec 6.

Nui confessed that he raped and murdered the girl.

Pol Lt Gen Kamrob said DNA samples taken from the flesh, hair and blood matched with saliva and oral tissue samples from the girl's father and mother. This confirmed it was their missing daughter.
