An improvised bomb hidden in a motorcycle exploded on a by-pass road in the Narathiwat municipality area on Sunday night, causing a partial blackout along the road but no injuries, police said.
Pol Lt Kathawut Silapapanya, the duty officer at the Muang district police station, said a team of bomb disposal police was rushed to the spot in front of a coffee shop on being informed of the blast.
The police found the explosion was from a home-made bomb hidden in a motorcycle parked on the roadside. The blast slightly damaged a commercial building and five shop fronts. Nobody was hurt.
A police patrol was believed to be the target of the bomb.
