Mum killed by falling board in mall

KHON KAEN — A woman was killed and two others injured when a gypsum board fell from the fifth floor of a shopping mall building on Wednesday, police said.

Pol Maj Anuchit Padungchart, an investigating officer at Muang Khon Kaen police station, received a report at 12.45pm that the gypsum board, about 1.5 metres in length and width, fell on to a Honda City parked outside CentralPlaza Khon Kaen in Muang district.

There were three people lying in a pool of blood near the sedan. They were named as Buakaw Jaithiang, 45, her nine-year-old son and Somporn Maleewan, 29. 

The three were sent to Khon Kaen Ram Hospital. Buakaw later succumbed to her injuries.

Pol Col Supaporn Kamsinghnok, deputy superintendent of Muang Khon Kaen police station, said the three had travelled from Nakhon Ratchasima via a van to take part in an academic seminar in Sakon Nakhon and  stopped for lunch along the way.

Police and engineers were inspecting the building to determine what caused the board to be fall from the wall.
