Cops nab 2 in noodle vendor killing case

Two men accused of colluding in the killing of a noodle vendor in Nakhon Pathom were arrested yesterday, police said.

One of them, Thawat Kaewngam, is a prior offender who was freed by a court just a few hours before allegedly committing the shooting on Tuesday. A court had bailed him on drugs, robbery and receiving charges.

National police chief Somyot Pumpunmuang said Mr Thawat and the other suspect, Yuthana Somboon, 24, were caught in Kanchanaburi's Huay Krachao district. The suspects allegedly shot Koranut Purensopha, 39, a noodle vendor in front of her house in Nakhon Pathom's Nakhon Chaisi district.

Mr Yuthana, Mr Thawat and their friends had argued with a group of men including Koranut's son. They threw a series of homemade bombs at Koranut's house, also a noodle shop. The suspects later returned to the shop and opened fire, killing Koranut as she was closing the stall.

Police said Koranut was accidentally shot in a gunfight between the suspects and Koranut's son. Police seized a handgun, a homemade bomb, a sedan, nine motorcycles, and a mobile phone from the suspects.
