5 men caught with speed pills, ya ice

Five men were arrested and more than 300,000 speed pills and 2kg of crystal methamphetamine seized in separate raids in Nonthaburi and Chiang Mai, police said.

The suspects were presented at a press conference at the headquarters of Provincial Police Region 5 on Friday, along with the 341,000 methamphetamine pills and the 2kg of "ya ice".

Three of them –Thanachol Thongnue-in, 30, Apiwat Sudjai, 24, and Sarawut Srimapong-were arrested at a shopping mall in Nonthaburi province after 328,000 speed pills and 2 kg of crystal meth were found hidden in a secret compartment of their car, which had a Chiang Mai licence plate. 

The trio were about to hand the drugs to a customer in the central province, which adjoins Bangkok.

The two other suspects - Emchai Manophen, 32 and Jeeranai Boonma, 34 - were arrested in Chiang Mai after police found 13,000 speed pills in their possession. 

Chiang Mai governor Suriya Prasartbandit said on Friday that special teams have been set up to shut down the smuggling of illicit drugs from border areas to the inner districts of the province.
