Stiff penalties for 4 drug dealers

The Criminal Court on Tuesday sentenced two drug dealers to life and two others to 50 years in prison after finding them guilty on charges of dealing in methamphetamine.

Monchai Poonpol, 31, Nikorn Ritdee, 31, Surasak Plaboothong, 30, and a woman, Thanchanok Yaemthat, 34, were arrested by police on Jan 7-8, 2013 in Sam Phran district of Nakhon Pathom and in Thawi Watthana district of Bangkok.

Found in their possession were 20 lumps of methamphetamine weighing 9.9 kilogrammes, 814,000 methamphetamine pills and 12.64kg of crystal methamphetamine, or ice.

The court as told they were part of a drug network in the North that delivered drugs to storage sites in Bangkok and nearby provinces before distributing them to clients in various areas.

The four were charged with having drugs in possession with intent to sell.

The court found them guilty as charged and initially sentenced all four of them to death.

Nikorn's and Surasak's death sentences were commuted to 50 years in prison each because they confessed.

The death sentence on Monchai and Thanchanok was reduced to life because they gave some useful information.
