Couple killed, burned in Yala

YALA - Militants sprayed bullets at a car, killing a couple and then burning them in Bannang Satar district on Wednesday, police said.

Sansern Kanchananet and his wife Nopparat were driving a pickup truck back to Muang district after delivering food to soldiers based in Bannang Satar.

Bannang Satar police station superintendent Chartchai Chanasit said the vehicle was attacked around 4.30pm as it was passing Ban Sri Tanyong.

Police, a bomb squad and forensic experts found the burned truck with several bullet holes and the burned bodies of the two on the road. About 10 M-16 and AK-47 bullet shells were spread in the area.

Pol Col Chartchai said the couple were killed in the ambush and their bodies dragged from the truck to be set alight before the attackers fled the scene. Insurgency was behind the killing, he added.
