PHETCHABURI - A lottery seller has done what the Government Lottery Office board never expected any vendor to do: Go cheaper.

As other vendors cried foul over the GLO decision mandate to sell lottery tickets for 80 baht a pair starting with the June 16 draw, Manoon Nivasbut, a retailer in Muang district, even lowered his price tag to 76 baht.

Mr Manoon, 81, said he decided to dorp the price at his shop to attract more fortune seekers and sell all his tickets as soon as possible. He got his wish, as they were snapped up quickly, he added.

The vendor said the profit from selling the tickets at 76 baht would be enough for him and added that he would continue to do it until the GLO changes the present rules.

Once selling for 100 baht a pair or more for the most sought numbers, tickets were ordered reduced to their legal face value.

The GLO board increased the wholesale discount to 12% from 7% in exchange for retailers lowering their pcies.

The National Council for Peace and Order set a maximum fine of 10,000 baht and one month's jail sentence for any vendor caught selling tickets for more than 80 baht. It used Section 44 of the interim charter to replace a 2,000-baht fine under the Government Lottery Act.
