NLA panel adviser to be removed

NLA panel adviser to be removed

The honorary adviser to a committee of the National Legislative Assembly will be sacked after it was revealed he was earlier arrested on a charge of stealing grain purchased by the rice-pledging scheme of the Yingluck Shinawatra government, according to Matichon Online.

Theerasak Saenwarangkul, alias Sia Uan, was appointed honorary adviser to the NLA's committee on legal, judicial and police affairs under an order dated Aug 3 and signed by panel chairman Adm Sithavachara Wongsuwon, a younger brother of Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon.

Warong Dejkijwikrom, a former Democrat MP for Phitsanulok, on Monday raised an objection to the appointment of Mr Theerasak, saying that the man had been arrested and charged with theft in connection with the rice-pledging scheme and should not have been appointed to the NLA committee.

Adm Sithavachara, on being informed, said he would hold a meeting of the committee on Aug 6 to remove Mr Theerasak as the honorary adviser.

Mr Theerasak and his younger brother Kittipong Saenwarangkul, alias Sia Lek, were arrested on July 30, 2014 under a warrant issued by the Pathum Thani Court on theft charges.

The two signed a contract with the Marketing Organisation for Farmers (MOF) to lease warehouses for storing rice under the pledging scheme. They allegedly stole the rice -  98,000 sacks of grain worth 98.4 million baht.

The case is still in the investigation process.
