A fruit trader was seriously wounded in a gun attack while sitting in a tea shop in Mayo district of Pattani province on Tuesday.
Pol Lt Col Abdulrosak Lo-mae, the Mayo police chief, said Sapae-ing Poka, 56, was inside the tea house in tambon Sakho Tai when a Toyota Altis passed in front of the shop and a man inside opened shot at him with a military-grade weapon.
Mr Sapae-ing was hit in the back and seriously wounded. He was admitted to Mayo Hospital.
Mr Sapae-ing was said to be a womaniser and had several wives. Police were investigating to find out whether the attack was the work of militants or related to a personal conflict.
