The Office of the Consumer Protection Board received 3,742 complaints between October 2014 and July 21, 2015, with condominium buyers comprising the largest group, according to Pairote Kanuengsap, head of the OCPB secretariat.

The 763 complaints from condominium buyers mostly concerned developers failing to complete construction in the time set down in the contract, buyers not being able to get loans in full amounts, construction contractors failing to do the work, defects found after construction is complete, and unfair provisions in purchase contracts.

Mr Pairote said that in many cases the parties in conflict were invited for talks and reached a compromise. In cases that could not be settled, the OCPB filed for damages on behalf of the consumers.

The second largest group of complaints came from 710 car buyers. The complaints were mostly about defects, lack of service centres, requests for refunds when vehicles were not delivered on time, and dealers not transferring car ownership.

The third group of 694 complaints were about goods and services. They included buyers not receiving goods as ordered or being supplied with goods with defects, misleading advertisements, and the quality of goods and services not matching the promotion campaign.

Complaints about medical and beauty clinics ranked fourth (308), followed by tourism-related services (247), communications equipment (200), mobile phone services (169) and internet services (122).
