Body of UK-Thai girl found in canal

The body of a Thai-British girl, 13, was found in a canal in Bangkok on Sunday.

Kannayao police found the girl, who is believed to have drowned, in Khlong O Peng in tambon O Ngoen, Sai Mai district yesterday. An initial investigation found no signs of physical abuse or sexual assault. Police said the girl disappeared on Saturday evening from her home in Soi Jatuchot 10.

Residents said they saw the girl playing alone near the canal while her mother was cleaning the house.

Police believe the girl could have drowned after falling in the canal. However, the victim’s relatives have disputed this as she was able to swim.

The girl’s body was taken to Police General Hospital for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
