Warrant out for new bombing suspect

The Min Buri Court on Wednesday approved an arrest warrant for yet another suspect in the Erawan shrine and Sathorn pier bombings, Metropolitan Police chief Sriwarah Rangsipramanakul said.

A police sketch of the latest Bangkok bombing suspect sought under an arrest warrant. He is said to be about 30 years of age and 170 centimetres tall.

Pol Lt Gen Sriwarah said the warrant was requested by Nong Chok police based on a sketch of the unidentified male suspect seen in CCTV footage buying bomb-making materials from a hardware store on Soi Sukhumvit 44/2 in Phra Khanong district on Aug 4. He then took the materials to the Pool Anant apartments in Nong Chok district.

The suspect was about 30 years of age and 170 centimetres tall.

He was probably a Thai national, since he was speaking Thai. Police were investigating to establish his identity, Pol Lt Gen Sriwarah said.

The man was initially charged with conspiracy to illegally assemble explosives.

Pol Lt Gen Sriwarah said more warrants would be issued for more suspects, both of Thai and foreign nationals.

Police have so far issued warrants for 14 suspects. Two have been arrested.

Col Winthai Suwari, the National Council for Peace and Order spokesman, said in a television statement that some media outlets had published news and analyses of the Ratchaprasong and Sathorn pier bombings in a way that could lead the public to postulate a motive for the crime.

That could not only confuse the public, but also affect Thailand's relations with other countries, he warned.

Col Winthai called for the public not to rush to conclusions, pending official announcements from the NCPO.
