Remand home official caught selling 'ya ba'

AYUTTHAYA---An official at a juvenile detention centre caught in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya district on Wednesday with 16,000 speed pills claimed he needed money to pay credit card bills and loan shark debts.

Anucha Mahapan, 38, attached to Ayutthaya Juvenile Observation and Protection Centre, was arrested on charges of having illicit drugs in his possession with intent to sell, Pol Col Sutthi Puangpikul, acting Ayutthaya police chief said on Wednesday.

A total of 16,000 methamphetamine pills were seized from him.

His arrest came after a police informant posing as a drug buyer contacted Mr Anucha to buy methamphetamine. When the Mr Anucha arrived on a motorcycle to deliver 6,000 speed pills at  the agreed venue on a road in tambon Pratuchai, police emerged to arrest him.

He was taken to his house where another 10,000 speed pills were seized.

The suspect confessed to selling illicit drugs. He told police that he had bought them from a man identified only as Keng as he needed money to pay off private loans and credit card debt.

He was held in police custody for legal action.
