SURIN – Police seized about 50 illegally modified motorcycles and a large number of weapons during the 12-day Elephant festival that ended on Tuesday.
Pol Maj Gen Chalong Phakpinyo, commander of Surin police, said the Nov 13-24 festival was crime free, with police manning several checkpoints to ensure public safety.
However, police did confiscate at least 50 illegally modified motorcycles, along with other illegal items -- including three ping pong bombs, 20 knives, six knuckledusters, more than 100 steel belts and other objects that could be used as weapons.
On Tuesday night, police also arrested a 20-year old woman and a 21-year-old man with 28 methamphetamine pills, which they admitted they intended to sell to young people during the festival.
The expanded investigation led to the arrest of another man in Muang district for the possession of 15 ya ba pills, a 9mm calibre gun and four bullets.
