Young American falls to death in Udon

UDON THANI -- Police are investigating the death of an American man who fell from the fifth floor of an apartment building in Muang district on Monday morning.

Muang district and tourist police went to Udon Mansion in Soi Thongkham Uthis opposite Udon Thani Rajabhat University after being informed of the incident about 7am.

They found the man, identified as Neftali Perez, 27, lying dead on the cement surface at the back of the building. He was believed to have died about three hours previously.

Police searched room 504 on the fifth floor and found bottles of liquor and water and his passport.  There were no indications of violence.

Apartment staff said he was a traveller who checked in alone on March 10.  He had spent most of the time in his room, occasionally with a Thai woman.

Police said it was possible he had been drinking alone, walked to the balcony and accidentally fallen over the railing. However, investigators had not ruled out the possibility he was murdered.
