Women, boy hurt in twin Yala bomb blasts

YALA - Four civilians, three women and a nine-year-old boy, received slight injuries when two bombs exploded at a weekend market in Kabang district on Tuesday morning.

The first bomb went off in a garbage bin near a roadside grocery store at Ban Bala market in tambon Bala, according to Kabang police station. The blast was reported around 11.30am. The force of the explosion shattered roof tiles.

About 10 minutes later, another bomb detonated near a parked pickup truck about 20 metres from the scene of the first. The explosion caused minor injuries to four people and damaged the truck and some motorcycles parked nearby.

The injured, three women and a young boy, were rushed to Kabang Hospital. They were identified as Yureena Jaemamar, 20, Thanom Kaewsomnu, 35, Rungthiwa Sakulpetch, 29, and Kosol Sakulpetch, 9. 

Bomb disposal officers called in to inspect the scene said the two bombs were small, each weighing about 1kg. Bits of destroyed electronic circuitry, flashlights and electric wires were scattered over the area 

Police initially blamed southern insurgents, but were still investigating.
