Poll outcome unchanged by voting reruns, EC says

The results of Sunday's reruns at six polling stations across five provinces have not changed the outcome of the March 24 general election, the Election Commission (EC) announced.

The EC on Monday revealed the vote count results, which will be added to the results from all other polling stations in the constituencies to determine which candidate actually won in their respective constituencies.

The poll agency ordered the reruns after it discovered that the number of marked ballots at the six polling stations did not match the voter turnout figures.

On Sunday, a rerun was held at the 32nd polling station for Constituency 13 in Bangkok's Bang Kapi district, the 12th polling station for Constituency 1 in Phetchabun's Khao Kho district, and the sixth polling station for Constituency 2 in Phitsanulok's Phrom Phiram district, the sixth polling station for Constituency 2 in Yasothon's Maha Chana Chai district, and the third and sixth polling stations for Constituency 4 in Lampang's Ko Kha district.

The EC said that the results do not affect the outcome of the March 24 elections, as the winners in each constituency where the reruns were held remain unchanged.

EC results showed that in Bangkok, only 370 out of 802 eligible voters went to vote at the 32nd polling station for Constituency 13.

The recount of the votes at the polling station showed that Democrat candidate Parit "Itim" Wacharasindhu and Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP) candidate Thitiphat Chotidechanan were tied with 96 votes each.

Based on the preliminary vote count after the March 24 poll, Ms Thitiphat won the election in Constituency 13, with a total of 27,489 votes.
