A chastened Sam Mitr faction of the Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP) said on Tuesday it would stop complaining about cabinet posts, after voicing its concerns on Monday, and instead respect Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha's choices.
Faction leaders Suriya Juangroongruangkit and Somsak Thepsuthin announced their compliance at a news conference in Bangkok. PPRP leader Uttama Savanayana sat with them.
"The Sam Mitr group will not cause problems for the prime minister, so he will have time to work for the country. After communicating with seniors yesterday, whatever positions the group now receives will be the decision of the prime minister," Mr Suriya said.
On Monday his group members had gathered intending to congratulate prospective cabinet members, but was then informed that he and faction member Anucha Nakasai would be excluded from the cabinet.
Earlier reports had Mr Suriya in line for the energy portfolio and Mr Anucha for deputy finance minister.
Mr Anucha was deeply disappointed. He had worked hard for the party during the election campaign and agreed to risk standing in a constituency, even though he deserved to be among the party list candidates, Mr Suriya said.
On Monday Sam Mitr demanded the ouster of Sontirat Sontijirawong from the job of PPRP secretary-general over the cabinet seat allocation.
Mr Somsak on Tuesday said Sam Mitr would stop calling for the removal of Mr Sontirat now that it had fully informed "those in power" of Mr Anucha's contribution.
"Yesterday we communicated clearly to those in power, so that they will take the proper action... . Now we hold no grudge for the secretary-general," Mr Somsak said.
PPRP leader Uttama said, "What happened is a part of democracy. In the party, people can have different opinions but ours were voiced loudly, and it is fine."
He hoped Prime Minister Prayut and PPRP MPs could work smoothly together.
