Prosecutors have decided not to press sedition charges against three key Pheu Thai members who held a briefing last year criticising the junta’s performances on the fourth anniversary of the military rule.
Watana Muangsook, a former social development and human security minister, Chaturon Chaisang, a former Pheu Thai deputy prime minister who later became chief strategist of now-defunct Thai Raksa Chart Party, and Chusak Sirinil, chairman of Pheu Thai’s legal team, held a press conference at Pheu Thai’s head office in Bangkok on May 17 last year on the performance of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), which later filed sedition charges against them.
Narinpong Jinapak, a lawyer authorised by the trio to hear the prosecutors’ order on Tuesday, said police had been asked whether they objected the prosecutors' decision and they confirmed they agreed with it.
In addition to the three men, six others were accused by the NCPO on the same occasion of violating its illegal assembly order. The accusation was dropped after the NCPO revoked the order.
