PM's short words for his detractors

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has warned of legal action against people behind "false and twisted" information posted about him in social and mainstream media.

Without citing specific instances, Gen Prayut said netizens have distorted remarks of his and posted and shared the comments on social media.

He also indicated the mainstream media may have reported the distorted comments.

"Don't cut my words short. If you do that, it's wrong," he said.

The premier said he has been accused of speaking too fast or passing on the wrong information.

Netizens and mainstream media had responded by defaming him and Gen Prayut said he is "not having any of it".

He said running false or distorted information on the internet is a criminal offence punishable by a jail term of up to seven years and a maximum fine of 140,000 baht. If necessary, he would take cases to court.
