Warong quits ACT to set up own group

Former MP for Phitsanulok Warong Dechgitvigrom has resigned from the Action Coalition for Thailand (ACT) Party to set up a political group of his own.

Dr Warong announced his resignation on Facebook on Wednesday. "I have talked to Suthep Thaugsuban about the problems in politics, stressing the necessity to give people a good understanding of them, and I have the ability to do this," he said. "But, being a member of a party may cause me some limitations in looking for participants. I have decided to resign my membership of ACT."

Mr Suthep was the leader of the now defunct People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), an anti-Yingluck government protest group, and a co-founder of ACT.

Warong: Consults Suthep

Dr Warong said he intended to invite people concerned about the country to set up a political group which will offer ways out of problems. He would also serve as a special lecturer for the Thai Move Institute (TMI).

The TMI was unveiled as a training institute for future leaders in November last year. Dr Warong is also a former member of the Democrat Party. He resigned last year and joined ACT.

Last week, a group called Creative, Action, Revival, and People Empowerment (Care) was unveiled as a civil group to tackle social problems. The co-founders include Phumtham Wechayachai, an adviser to Pheu Thai leader Sompong Amornvivat, and former executive of the dissolved Thai Rak Thai Party Surapong Suebwonglee.
