Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha is the most popular choice for the post of prime minister for people in the South, followed by Paetongtarn "Ung-ing" Shinawatra of the Pheu Thai Party, in an opinion poll by the National Institute of Development Administration, or Nida Poll.
The poll was carried out on Oct 17-20 on 2,001 eligible voters aged 18 and over, of various levels of education, occupations and incomes, in the southern provinces to compile their opinions on "the right man and right party for southerners."
Asked who they would support for the post of prime minister today, the answers varied as follows:
• 23.94% for Gen Prayut;
• 13.24% Ms Paetongtarn of the Pheu Thai Party;
• 12.79% said no one was suitable;
• 11.24% Pita Limjaroenrat of the Move Forward Party;
• 6.14% Pol Gen Sereepisuth Temeeyaves of the Seri Ruam Thai Party;
• 5.95% Jurin Laksanawisit of the Democrat Party;
• 5.30% Korn Chatikavanij of the Chart Pattanakla Party;
• 5.10% Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan of the Thai Sang Thai Party;
• 4.00% Anutin Charnvirakul of the Bhumjaithai Party;
• 2.90% Wan Muhamad Nor Matha of the Prachachart Party;
• 2.40% Somkid Jatusripitak of the Sang Anakot Thai Party;
• 1.50% Cholnan Srikaew of the Pheu Thai Party;
• 1.10% Chadchart Sittipunt, the Bangkok governor; and
• 4.40% combined were for Kanchana Silpa-archa (Chartthaipattana Party), Mongkolkit Suksintharanon (Thai Civilised Party), Warong Dechgitvigrom (Thai Pakdee Party), Mingkwan Saengsuwan, Abhisit Vejjajiva (Democrat Party); Gen Prawit Wongsuwon (Palang Pracharath Party), Pirapan Salirathavibhaga (Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party) and Srettha Thavisin, along with those who did not answer or were not interested.
Asked from which party they would vote for an MP in the constituency system, the answers were:
• 27.49% for the Democrat Party;
• 14.94% Pheu Thai Party;
• 12.09% Palang Pracharath Party;
• 12.09% undecided;
• 11.84% Move Forward Party;
• 7.45% Bhumjaithai Party;
• 3.60% Prachachart Party;
• 3.10% Seri Ruam Thai Party;
• 1.50% Chart Pattanakla Party;
• 1.50% Thai Sang Thai Party;
• 1.05% Kla Party;
• 1.00% Sang Anakot Thai Party, and
• 2.35% combined were those for Chartthaipattana, Thai Pakdee, Ruam Thai Sang Chart, Thai Civilised, Action Coalition for Thailand and New Economy parties, and those who had no answer or were not interested.
Asked from which party they would vote for MPs in the party-list system, the answers were:
• 27.64% for the Democrat Party;
• 15.54% Pheu Thai Party;
• 12.54% undecided;
• 12.49% Move Forward Party;
• 11.89% Palang Pracharath Party;
• 6.95% Bhumjaithai Party;
• 3.15% Seri Ruam Thai Party;
