The government will amend certain laws to help business operators improve their efficiency, says Tongthong Chandransu, an adviser to the prime minister.
Speaking at Government House yesterday, he said the government wants to help operators run their businesses smoothly. In October it set up a committee to tackle obstacles commonly found when operating in Thailand.
My Tongthong is the chairman of the committee looking into outdated laws or regulations and providing suggestions to the government. He said the committee has prioritised four key issues where law changes are urgently required. Each category will have a subcommittee to look into the details.
The first issue is to amend immigration and labour laws for foreign workers. Nagging problems include applying for a work permit, 90-day reports and collections of the TM.6 immigration card at entry points to the kingdom. Prof Kithipong Urapheepattanaphong, former chairman of Baker & McKenzie Thailand, will chair it.
The second focuses on a so-called super licence so firms can apply for just one umbrella or "super" licence instead of requiring several for their operations. The subcommittee, led by PTT's Senior Executive Vice President of General Counsel Peangpanor Boonklum, will focus first on restaurants, accommodation, and filming locations.
The third focus is on international trade, with Wisit Wisitsora-At, the permanent secretary for the Digital Economy and Society Ministry, at the helm. The last subcommittee aims to promote the use of clean energy in business operations. Kitti Tangjitmaneesakda, director general of SCG Legal Counsel Ltd, will lead it.
