The incident took place as the vehicle was travelling along Mitraphap Road about 7am, Pol Col Manote Kerdkwan, chief of Klang Dong police station, said.

The driver of the white Hino transporter said a motorist driving in the opposite direction signalled to him, alerting him to the blaze.

It is believed to have started in one of the cars he was carrying, police said.

The driver said he tried to stop the transporter but the fire had burnt through its air brakes which caused them to fail.

The incident caused heavy traffic jams, police said.

The driver said he tried to put out the fire but the blaze was too strong. It was finally extinguished by emergency services.

Two Lamborghinis, a BMW, a Bentley and two other vehicles were damaged in the fire.

The Lamborghini alone was worth more than 40 million baht.

The driver of the transporter was taken to Klang Dong police station for questioning.
