Price cut for school tablets

An Education Ministry committee overseeing school tablet computer procurement says Thai firm Supreme Distribution has agreed to cut its price for supplying computers.

Supreme Distribution won the bid to supply 426,683 tablets for Mathayom 1 (Grade 7) students and teachers in central and southern provinces in the second phase of the government's One Tablet PC Per Child scheme.

It won with a bid of 1.24 billion baht, or 2,908.24 baht apiece, which is 0.4% lower than the median price of 2,920 baht.

It has agreed to lower the total price by 900,000 baht, so the unit price will be 2,906.13 baht apiece, a source said.

The Office of the Basic Education Commission (Obec) held a one-day electronic auction to procure 1.63 million tablets for Prathom 1 (Grade 1) and Mathayom 1 students and their teachers.

Supreme Distribution won the distribution for Mathayom 1 in the central and southern zone, while Chinese firm Shenzhen Yitoa Intelligent Control Co won the bid to supply tablets to Prathom 1 students and teachers nationwide.

It won with prices of 1,953.12 baht apiece in the central and southern provinces and 2,103.64 baht in northern and northeastern provinces.

An e-auction for the Mathayom 1 contract in the North and the Northeast will be held on Aug 1.
