Aum Neko faces lese majeste

A television director on Monday lodged a lese majeste complaint with the Crime Suppression Division (CSD) against a Thammasat University student responsible for a high-profile campaign against school uniforms.

CSD police said Phornthipa Supatnukul, director of the TV programme Best of Your Life, filed the complaint against Saran Chuchai, 20, aka "Aum Neko", a student at Thammasat's liberal arts faculty.

Ms Phornthipa said she filed the case because she was angered by the student's behaviour.

Aum Neko, a transgender student, made headlines on Sept 5 when she put up posters around the Thammasat-Rangsit campus showing students in uniform simulating heterosexual and homosexual acts.

The posters were part of a campaign against student uniforms.

Ms Phornthipa said 20 TU students were interviewed a couple of months ago about politics and economics and Aum Neko had used the opportunity to allegedly criticise the royal institution.

As evidence, Phornthipa presented the CSD with a video clip of the interview. She also provided messages also critical of the monarchy that Aum Neko allegedly posted on Facebook.

The CSD accepted the case and said it would be referred to the Technology Crime Suppression Division for further investigation.

Two of the controversial posters. The left one reads, 'Did you wear your uniform to the last exam?', and the right 'When the university uniform is being challenged'.
