PHUKET ― A Russian man was found dead in the sea off Patong beach in Phuket's Kathu district on Tuesday.
The man was identified as Alexey Tsymbalyuk, 45.
A beach guard spotted Tsymbalyuk’s body floating in the water in the afternoon and alerted authorities who used a jet ski to tow him to shore.
Pol Col Jirapat Phichanaphan, chief of Kathu police station, said a preliminary examination indicated the man appeared to have died at least three hours before he was discovered.
The dead man was found with foam around his mouth, but no injuries to his body.
Pol Col Jirapat said the Russian probably drowned while swimming alone. His body has been sent to Patong Hospital for a post mortem examination.
Tsymbalyuk had travelled to Phuket with his wife.
Police investigations are ongoing and will include questioning the deceased’s wife.
