Protesters petition HM King

Anti-government protesters have petitioned His Majesty the King for a "people's council" to replace the government of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.

More than 2,000 demonstrators marched from the Phan Fa Bridge to the Office of His Majesty's Principal Private Secretary at the Grand Palace yesterday morning.

The group represents the People's Democratic Force to Overthrow Thaksinism (Pefot), the Dharma Army and the Anti-Thaksin Coalition comprising civic groups from all 77 provinces.

The march was led through the Democrat Party's nearby protest site at the Democracy Monument.

At the Grand Palace, the group's representatives filed the petition with Takorn Tamprateep, His Majesty's Assistant Principal Private Secretary.

Maj Gen Chamlong Srimuang, a former leader of the People's Alliance for Democracy who joined the group, said the government no longer had the support of the people. He also said the coalition embodied the spirit of revolution felt throughout the country.

Maj Gen Chamlong said supporters of the protests expected be held for treason if their attempts to pressure the government to step down failed.

The protesters were determined to continue with their actions because the government was intolerable, he said.
