Protesters march to national police HQ

Anti-government protesters marched by vehicles from the government office complex on Chaeng Wattana Road, Laksi, to the Royal Thai Police office on Rama 1 road on Wednesday morning.

The protesters, most of them men, begn arranging the caravan around 8.30am and the paraade left about 9am as planned.

Prior to the march, Suthep Thuragsuban happily greeted supporters.

Mr Suthep on Tuesday night declared the fight will contunue until it achieves its ultimate goal of eradicating the  “Thaksin regime” from Thailand and a "people's council" headed by a royally appointed prime minister installed.

Security was increased at the Royal Thai Police offices ahead of the march. Ten companies of police were deployed outside the building and grounds, along with fire trucks and cranes, and loud speakers installed to negotiate with protest leaders.

Concrete and barbed wire barriers have been placed at the entrances to the police compound on Rama 1 Road.

Roads around the police headquarters were open as usual but the elevated skywalk linking BTS Siam station and BTS Chidlom has been closed.

Protesters under the Network of Students and People for Reform of Thailand also moved from their protest site in Nang Loeng to join the protesters from Chaeng Wattana, as did people from the Ratchadamnoen rally site around Democracy Monument.
