The military on Thursday announced the temporary suspension of the constitution after declaring a coup.
The National Peace and Order Maintaining Council decided to temporarily suspend the charter but will still keep Section 2, Col Winthai Suwaree, its spokesman, said.
The section says: ''Thailand adopts a democratic regime of government with the King as Head of State,'' Col Winthai said.
The caretaker government ended as a result of the suspended charter, he said.
Independent agencies and other organisations under the constitution are able to resume their duties normally, he added.
