Soldiers complain, host removed

Thai PBS reportedly removed the host of a programme in which people express opinions about reform plans after representatives of the military government met with the channel's executives, according to Isara News Agency.

Five high-ranking military officers met with executives at the TV station's headquarters about the content of the programme called Voices of the People that must be heard before the Reform, the news agency said.

The officers said their superiors had urged Thai PBS to stop broadcasting the programme because they were upset with how Nattaya Wawweerakhup, the programme host, asked questions of some villagers and activists. Some of the questions touched on the May 22 coup that brought the current administration to power.

One episode in particular upset the junta. Featuring southern people's thoughts on reform, it was taped in Hat Yai and broadcast on Nov 8.

After the meeting, Thai PBS executives agreed to remove Ms Nattaya from the programme, Isara News Agency reported. They also changed the content of the programme from interviews with villagers and activists to merely reporting news from the area.

Ms Nattaya confirmed via Facebook with Isara News Agency that she had been removed from the programme.
