National Science and Technology Fair 2019 announced

17 International Countries, 102 Organizations in Total Join the Event Featuring in the Technology Showcase and 9 Highlight Inspirations

8th August 2019 – Bangkok / Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) announces their readiness to hold “National Science and Technology Fair 2019” event, The greatest science and technology event of the year of Thailand and Southeast Asia with “Inspiring 1 million Thai youths and create talented people with science” as its theme, that will be held on 16 – 25 August 2019 at Hall 6-12, IMPACT arena, Muang Thong Thani. It’s greatly held this year with 17 international countries, 102 organizations in total join to show their works and potential in modern science and technology and 9 highlight inspirations, and announces the hottest male presenter of the year, James Jirayu Tangsrisuk.

Assoc. Prof. Soranit Siltharm, Permanent Secretary of MHESI, reveals that since 2006, Ministry of Science and Technology (in that period of time) by the National Science Museum has been holding “National Science and Technology Fair” in August which fall on the national science day on 18th August. So far, there are cooperation from government agencies, private sector both in Thailand and foreign countries to create learning space outside of a classroom, and make awareness and inspiration to Thai youths. This year, the ministry which responsible to hold the event has changed from MOST to MHESI that still has an important mission to prepare Thai youths for the 21 century and keep up with the change of technology in the future. The National Science and Technology Fair this year has created the creative learning space through activities and exhibitions from both Thailand and other countries to spark interests and inspire people to create useful works, to further their idea to be the next generation of innovators of Thailand in the future, as the ‘create talented people’ theme.

For the greatness of the event this year, MHESI has carefully selected the main activities and exhibitions that go along with the popular trend, with 9 highlight inspirations, such as ‘Mission to the Moon Exhibition’ to celebrate 50th anniversary of the human’s first-step on to the moon, see the spectacular work of the inventor that his idea was more advanced than others in his era in ‘Nicola Tesla: The great inventor who intended to change the world’ Exhibition, and join the celebration of the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements with the ‘Amazing City of Elements’ Exhibition, learn the biodiversity in the ‘Examining the species museum’ Exhibition which duplicates from Smithsonian Museum Architecture, why the plastics that have many different benefits has become an environmental degradation. Let’s find the real culprit together in ‘Plastics have changed the world’ Exhibition, the debut of an original STEAM Education activity ‘Spike Prime’ for the first time in Thailand with the ‘LEGO Space Challenge Land’ Exhibition and the debut of the hottest male presenter of the year ‘James Jirayu Tangsrisuk’ who is in this duty for the second year to invite Thai youths and the public to learn science, open imagination and find what they want to learn with fun that everyone, the entire family, can attend pleasurably.

Assoc. Dr. Rawin Rawiwong, President of National Science Museum (NSM) emphasizes the greatness of this year’s National Science and Technology Fair that they receive the cooperation from government and private sector, both in Thailand and from foreign countries, all 102 agencies from 17 countries, including 38 agencies affiliated with MHESI, 18 agencies from government sector, 18 agencies from associations / association councils / private sector, and 28 organizations from 16 allied countries, which are Australia, Cambodia, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Russia, Singapore and United Kingdom, join hands to hold the event to exhibit the advancement of Science, technology and innovation to spark the interest in researchers, scientists and the public, especially to inspire the youths that have to grow up and be the important force of their countries in the future, and to apply science in their daily life. In addition, there are many other activities, such as scientific activities, contest, national and international symposiums to exchange experiences, knowledge and create a network of scientific cooperation, such as the InterAcademy Partnership Science Education Program (IAP SEP), which will take place on 20-22 August, etc.

On the readiness to hold the event, Assoc. Dr. Rawin reveals that from 13 years of experience in holding national science and technology fair, we have prepared to accommodate a large number of visitors. There is cooperation with many agencies for the perfection of this event, including the place, public utilities, traffic, transportation service, first aid, security, reception, stores, restaurants, and experienced personnel to welcome and facilitate the visitors that should be more than 1 million people this year. Currently, there are about 500,000 people that have accepted the invitation.

Assoc. Prof. Soranit says other than the main National Science and Technology Fair that will be greatly held, there are also ‘National Science Week 2019’ events in provincial this August by 38 Universities across Thailand. He ends his speech by inviting parents, teachers, youths and the public to attend the National Science and Technology Fair that MHESI and the cooperated agencies have prepared and dedicated to be held greatly between this 16 – 25 August at hall 6 – 12 IMPACT, Muang Thong Thani. There is no fee to attend the event and join the activities from 9am to 7pm. And the event will be opened officially on 17th August by Dr. Somkid Jatusripitak, Deputy Prime Minister, and on 18th August, National Science Day, meet with the actor, the hottest presenter of this year event “James Jirayu” who will join this inspiration event for Thai youths.
